Prevention of type 2 diabetes(contd...)
The A D A (American Diabetes Association) is not recommending the intake of alcohol but it is quite interesting to note that alcohol consumption may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. Diets that are very low in saturated fats reduce the risk of becoming insulin resistant and diabetic. Consumption of partially hydrogenated fats should be minimized. Lifestyle interventions are however more effective than metformin at preventing diabetes not regardless of weight loss. In patients on hydroxylchloroquine for rheumatoid arthritis, it is observed that the occurrence of diabetes is 80% less though the casual mechanisms are not clear to some extent.
